You guys have NO idea how excited I've been to share this session with you.
This little sweetie was not only beautiful.... but SO SO SO good. She slept like a total champ and let Shelby and I have our way with her. :) Our time together seriously flew by and I found myself wanting her and her sweet-as-can-be mamma to stay awhile longer just so I could have a little more cuddle time.
Love, love, love this precious little one.
Enjoy. Miss K.
"When I got my pictures back from Katie, all I can say is WOW,WOW,WOW! These are the most amazing pictures I have ever seen. Only a true professional would take the time as Katie did to change, feed, and wait for a crying fit to subside and then snap the most beautiful pictures. I wish I knew about Katie when my son was born! Thanks again Katie."

Well! Here we are for the next installment for the Orban family! Sweet baby S arrived on June 15th of this year. Perfectly perfect. A most beautiful little bean. So so so loved and anticipated by her first time parents and grandparents!~
She was about four weeks old by the time I was able to see and play with her for our photo shoot. A little older than most of the newborn babies I photograph... but this little one was so wonderfully sweet and accommodating.... and slept for me when I really needed her to!
Once again - because Nicole and Phil live in Richmond... we were invited to shoot on a wonderful property in their family here on the shore. Now, with full summer swing, the flowers were out, the pool was open, the fountains were running, and the shoreline was humming with boat life. What a glorious place!
I absolutely adore this family... You can view Nicole's maternity session HERE.
Without further ado... May I present, Sweet baby S.
A little before and after... :)
Another before and after that I loved...
"This was our second time working with Katie, and hopefully not our last. It's not just that the pictures are beautiful. They are, they're gorgeous. Katie is incredibly creative, and can find the perfect shot anywhere. Most importantly, she always had Sloane's safety in mind, Nicole and I were put at ease from the moment we met her. Our only regret is we can't go back in time and have her shoot our wedding!

I had the wonderful opportunity to capture their wedding last summer. Lisa and Scott are so effortless, as individuals, as a couple... and now - they are parents!
I knew Lisa from Penn State. Friends of friends. Through her wedding experience - we became closer. She is a ray of sunshine. So kind, always smiling, and her rays just shine on everyone she meets. They shine especially bright for Scott. And believe me - he counts himself a lucky guy. I know that.
But so is she. Lucky together. :)
When Lisa's mom reached out to me last Christmas to spill the beans that Lisa and Scott were expecting - I was overjoyed. The perfect couple - now proud parents-to-be. Life is indeed sweet. Lisa's mom gifted them that Christmas with a newborn session from me.
I was more than thrilled for them - but had to curb my excitement since it was still MONTHS away. :(
Well - little S didn't disappoint! She was born in early June with a full head of dark brown hair - just like her mamma. When they visited me at the studio - she was a total cuddle bug. We got along juuuuust swimmingly. I was alll over those chubby cheeks.
Lisa and Scott - I just KNEW the two of you would make a beautiful baby. I'm sure she will grow up to be the ray of light you have set the example for her to be. Truly magical.
I always, ALWAYS appreciate my time with all of you. What a gift to me.
Love you all.
Can't wait to watch her grow!

This little nugget just had me the moment his little carseat carrier popped in the door. That red hair... those full lips. What a LOVE. Shelby and I were both just smitten with him.
And he slept! Oh my, was he a great sleeper! It's soooo nice when that happens. :O)
We had a few moments where he really wanted to stretch his loooong legs out - but he was just working out the kinks so he could get more comfortable for me.
And his mamma and daddy... well they were beaming, as you might expect. Wonderfully laid back, and proud to show him off. I would be too. He sure is the perfect handsome blend of the two of them.
Please enjoy, Baby K and his proud mamma and daddy.
Love you guys!

As many of you are well aware by now... photographing newborns is definitely my passion.
It is truly an honor to have a family choose me to capture those first amazing days of their new son or daughter's life.
Those first few days - by two months down the road - seem like a total blur for mom and dad - are miraculous in and of themselves..... As parents, we all end up thinking - was our baby really ever that tiny? It's hard to imagine.
Their growth in that first year goes at an amazing and feverish pace. Doubling in size in just a few months. Tripling in just a year.
Could you imagine yourself as an adult tripling in size in twelve months? Sounds crazy, right?
But it's the truth. And that's why I feel so lucky to do what I do.
The window is so small... and therefore incredibly important.
In my humble opinion - capturing the birth of your newborn baby - particularly in those first few days is every bit as big a deal (if not bigger) than photographing your wedding day.
And for all of you newlyweds out there reading this - I mean no disrespect. The very moment you hold that little bundle in your arms for the first time - and realize that baby is ALL YOURS - you'll know exactly what I mean.
:)
So... even though I have a great deal of fun - I also take my job very very seriously. And that means taking great care of my miniature clients when they come to see me. Their safety is always my #1 concern.
I would never even consider attempting a pose that I felt would ever endanger them. I always have an assistant or second set of hands in the studio, sitting just inches away from my little subjects at ALL times.
And I always allow plenty of time during the session to keep them comfortable. We pat bottoms, we change lots of diapers, we take breaks to nurse or bottle feed. I usually get pooped on. :)
A happy baby makes for an excellent subject. That's just the way it has to be.
So many of the complex poses you see out there on the internet are nothing more than fancy post-processing tricks. Photoshop stuff we like to call "composites." Where we take a few different photos and then merge them together after the session to achieve a desired result.
I'm happy to show you what I mean.
A pose like this for instance...
is really just a combination of these two photos merged together in Photoshop.... Daddy is sitting right next to his baby girl... supporting her the entire time.
or a photo like this one...
is a combination of these...
And by the way - that hand under her head is my assistant Shelby's. She's sitting cris crossed on the floor right next to this little sweetie with her legs under her - mere inches off the floor.
I take this shot while laying down flat on my stomach. :)
Here's my Shelby giving one of our "supermodels" a little cuddle time...
This one... the ever-popular potato sac.... :)
is handled this way...
Here's another...
Pretty neat, eh?
This little love-bug looks like she's floating out in space, right?
Nah - not not so much.
Dad is just sitting in an EZ chair with some black non-reflective fabric wrapped around him barber-shop-style.
Now that I've shared all my secrets....
Just kidding.
Anyone with a computer can basically Google how all this is done... they're nobody's secrets.... And should be nobody's secrets!!! Every person out there who calls anyone one month or younger a client should familiarize themselves with proper safety techniques when working with these tiny little subjects.
I only say all of this because sometimes I hear about people attempting to try these poses in unsafe ways. Not good. Not good at all. So - if I put this out there - and just ONE someone reads it and is then encouraged to adopt a safer routine in their business - I'll feel like I made a small dent.
Here's a link to two more excellent articles on this topic with more supporting photo examples...
Shoot safe out there everybody! Getting some crazy pose isn't worth putting a baby in danger!
Have an awesome weekend!

As promised.... today I share with you the oh-so-beautiful baby T.
Her mamma and daddy are two very VERY handsome people so it's no surprise where this little sweetheart gets her stunning good looks. ;)
Not only that - but she slept like a total champ!
I have to give a huge shout out to T's daddy, Rob. He was the most incredible assistant the day of the session. He was ready for anything I threw at him - despite the 80+ degree heat in the studio! What a trooper. You are indeed, the man, Rob. :)
And - they brought along some really fun props to incorporate... some purple bedding from her new nursery - which we used as a wrap - and a crab bushel basket. Love it when my clients arrive armed with creative energy and enthusiasm!
Rob, Tricia and sweet little miss T. Love you all. Can't wait to see how this little princess grows!
Some favorites of mine...
:)
I made that little crown she is wearing from some lace I bought at Jo-Anns and a combination of fabric stiffener and glitter fabric paint. Cute, right? Actually I made several. With different lace patterns and paint colors.... I used these directions I saw on a blog called The Girl Inspired.
Little TINK.... :)
Her little "hurricane" cowlick was just about the cutest thing I've ever seen.
Pretty mamma.
Handsome daddy.
Beautiful family.
xoxo!

Sometimes it's so so cool when our random little lives intersect. And even cooler when they VERY randomly intersect for a second time.
When that second time thing happens - you know you were just MEANT to know someone. Like it was all meant to be. And that's what happened here...
Follow this...
I was referred by a sweet-sweet someone in Clark's office to Kelly and Randy, as they anxiously awaited the arrival of their first baby - a girl! I'm so thankful when folks refer me. Especially so, in this case because the person who referred me had never used me personally. She just knew of my work - and knew Clark. That was huge. Thank you so much Brooke!
Kelly called a short time later and I knew instantly on the phone, we were going to mesh. She was so excited and full of anticipation and I could tell that she really valued good photography. That, friends, is the best mix of a dream client. Hopeful. Excited. Values good photography. Win. Win. Win.
So here's the fun - and tricky part... Stay with me here...
What seems like a billion years ago... (more like 7 or 8) I was dating this guy who lived down south and on one of my visits there, I met this nice guy, Randy - a work colleague of his. Nice to meet you, yadda yadda... That was it really. Though I'm pretty certain I had a few too many beers one night out with him and some of his buddies. Eh... those were the days, right?
Fast forward to last month... I had soley dealt with Kelly on the phone when setting up their appointment for E... when into my driveway their car pulled and out stepped Randy. In that instant I still hadn't connected the dots - but I just KNEW I had met Randy before. A few little Q&A's later we got to the bottom of how we had crossed paths. So random. But so meant to be.
Lovely. Lovely. Lovely people they are. After an awkward chuckle about days gone by - we all settled into a fun rhythm of enjoying their experience as brand new parents.
Kelly was just euphoric and so so calm and collected. Almost like she had been a mom already for years. I was amazed at her grace and composure. And Randy was just so helpful with the session and so supportive of Kelly and his brand new family. The adoration held in his eyes for both of his girls made me wanna weep.
And what to say about the shining star of it all? Little Miss E just coudln't have been more amazing. What a perfect blend of both Randy and Kelly - she's just a doll. And clearly, has daddy wrapped around her little finger already! The connections they all shared in front of the camera were so authentic and loving. It was such an honor to capture their magic together. I absolutely cannot wait for next time.
Thanks so much you guys - from the bottom of my heart!
Enjoy a few of my favorites. :)

This handsome guy was such a hoot. He is for certain a mamma's boy already. And that's a good thing!
Due to a nasty flu going around shortly after his birth we weren't able to schedule the session until he was 11 days old - and he was just starting to sort out his days and nights. Big man just wanted to be awake - and cuddled by mommy a whole lot more than he wanted me to be messing with him. What a lover!!!
I absolutely adore this family. The big sisters are a riot. Mamma is just as beautiful and poised, and even though she has three little ones to care for... is just as calm cool and collected as could be. Daddy is as friendly and warm a person you'll ever meet. Loved them all.
Here are a few of my favorites from our time together...
Enjoy.

What a love bug.
This little girl was just as calm and collected as her momma and daddy. The epitome of Eastern Shore chill. She just slept and slept and was an utter dream to work with.
I had quite a few new things I wanted to try and I know I just couldn't have done it if she weren't so wonderful!
Thank you so so much Julie and Ben! Loved meeting you all. Your little lady was just magical.
Have an awesome weekend everyone!
