Earlier this year, Karena and I decided to make a few changes to our business plan. Changes that both of us needed to keep our sanity intact.
You see, at the tail end of 2010 we were both running a bit ragged. We had so many inquiries for photography and were so very excited at all the buzz we bit off a little more than we could chew. With both of us having little ones at home it became so difficult to manage schedules and still make time for them.
So, in 2011, being the masters of our respective domains, we decided we would remain a team for all of the weddings/engagements and large events that we would be contracted to do, but operate separate portrait businesses. We realized, while it sure was fun, it wasn't necessary for both of us to photograph all of the smaller sessions together. In order for us to spend more time with family, this was the best decision we could come up with.
Of course, I wasn't comfortable revealing any of this information until, I had come up with a proper branding concept for my own personal biz. As Clark will tell you, I can barely brush my teeth without having a "logo" show for it. You may have noticed a few variations on some of the watermarks I've been posting over the past few weeks... I was refining the concept... and finally, I peeled away some of the fluff and ended up with this...
simple enough.... Lilly Pullitzer-esque color scheme that I love and identify with. A little handwritten flair mixed with a minimalist typeface. I'm happy with it.
Here's a look at the business cards I ordered yesterday morning :

Love me some rounded corners...
One last thing...
I just want to say an additional thanks to Karena. If it weren't for her encouragement to embark on this new journey with her, I never would've had the guts to do it on my own. Now, with a little over a half a year of paid engagements under my belt, I feel good. Still learning everyday, of course. But I'm comfortable in my newfound skin. I have confidence that I'm providing clients with a great final product and that accepting payment for this service is money well earned. So thanks for the gentle nudge, girlfriend. You rock. I'm so happy to have you by my side as we continue to capture those magical wedding days together.
