Currently Loving | April Edition

Still savoring the "reading" of my new cookbook by my "BFF, Ree." Anxious to dig in and try some new cowboy food. :)

This book is my current bedtime ritual. A lot of it is good solid review for me but I'm picking up a little trick or two along the way. This is a great fundamentals book for any of you guys just starting out with your DSLR's.

Crushing on these Nine West wedges I saw on Nordstrom.com .... Feel like they would go with a ton of stuff.

Someday, maybe.

Speaking of crushes... I knew Zac Efron's manly, "all grown up" tide had begun to turn when I saw him in Charlie St. Cloud... but WHOA....

How about these little cuties? My sister in law gave me (aqua) one filled with index cards she cut in half and stamped with the days of the year. So I could easily write down a little kiddie quip or whathaveyou. Loved the gift - and love the bowls... So many uses... from Anthropologie.

I'm in terrible need of a new office chair... I want something comfortable - cushy - that I can sit in and edit for long stretches of time....

This one from Urban Outfitters is really affordable considering it's an upholstered piece... and looks like a cross between an armchair and a desk chair.

Totally loving the new "My Life" series of products from Paper Coterie. You customize them using your Instagram photos... :)

Speaking of Instagram... did you know that Facebook acquired them yesterday for a BILLION dollars? And what's more - Instagram produces NO revenue. It's a FREE app that makes NO money, created by a couple of Stanford graduates. Amazing.

How's THAT for percieved value!

And speaking of Apps... do you guys know about Postal Pix?

It's awesome. It's a MUST download if you like to use your iPhone to take photos. You are just a couple of taps away from enjoying prints of those on the go moments - delivered in one to two days.

Sandbar Sweater - great with something contrasty underneath.... it's a large knit that you can kinda see thru....

Wellspring Tank.... same idea - see thru - great layering piece. Would look great with a light blazer.

Best Mate Belt.... love nautical accents.

Finally. I'm renting some photography gear right now. Among the batch - is the Nikon SB-910 Speedlight Flash.

LOVE it. It's like a sonic boom compared to my SB-600.

Ahhh well... put it on the list!

Fun for Friday

Ok - so I'm a big loser and have no real post for you today (even though I took yesterday off too).... boooo HISSS!

I dunno what my excuse is. Life... 2 kids... random stuff popping up...

I know - that's no excuse.

All I know is - it's 12:30am right now and I should be sleeping and not screwing around on the computer trying to decide what I'm going to write.

BUT - I love you guys and feel that I must give you a proper weekend send-off - and promise, in keystrokes, that I'll get my act together next week.

I got lots to share, people. You best believe.

Saw this on a friend's Facebook page yesterday...

 

I'm so glad I stopped and took a minute. You see, malignant melanoma has touched my family.

In 2006, my younger brother - only 26 at the time - went through surgery to remove a funky looking mole and several layers of skin around it on his back as well as some lymph nodes.

One funky mole turned into this :

We jokingly say that's where his "angel wing" was removed.

If it were only that simple.

It was on his back.

How often do you look at your back?

Thankfully, his wife (oh the persistent, hounders we all are!) kept on him about getting it checked out. She saved his life and I can speak for my entire family when I say we owe her HUGE!!!

So here I am today on a soapbox of sorts - a place I have no right to be.

In my early days I was a SUN WORSHIPPER! I took it as my own personal challenge to go to the beach white - and come back as Brazilian as possible. I tanned in a tanning bed for proms, homecomings, even my wedding.

I knew it was bad for me - but I did it anyway. You are young and invincible.... and STUPID.

Never again.

Now I'm pastey white, and let's face it - 2 kids later - a little flabby, but I really couldn't give a hoot. I have a lot of "freckles" on my chest and elsewhere from bad sunburns that will look like huge ugly liver spots in 10-20 years - all because I baked and baked and baked like a friggin' russet every summer. And I got off easy.

My brother, on the other hand, never went to a tanning bed. He's the "ginger" boy in our family and always had on the 95 SPF... so go figure.

What I'm trying to say is... it's May. It's getting nice outside. So many of you are moms who read this blog. Slather your kids in sunscreen... put them in a burka for goodness sake if you have to. But protect them from the sun... protect yourself... and by all means educate them and someone you know about this.

And Clark - yes - I'm talkin' to you dear... If I see one more bright red neck on you come through that door after you "forget" to put sunscreen on (more than just once a day!!!) while you are out in the yard, or fishing, or golfing... I'm gonna lose it! (My turn to be the hounding wife!)

So - party people - do me a favor and pass this on to someone you know and love. Ya never know - they could decide to check out their bod in the mirror tonight - see a funky mole - and you'll have saved their life too.

Things I Love Right Now.

1 - Athleta fingerless gloves. They are amazing. I was recently gifted these by my sister from another mother.... LOVE. As she put it in her card to me... they are great "picture taking gloves!!!"

2 - "Someday" by Alison McGhee. Can't read this to Macho without crying.

3 - Hershey's Kisses - seasonal mix. No description necessary.

4 - Striped Grossgrain Ribbon from The Ribbon Factory in 100 yd. spools. This is my third Christmas with this ribbon.

5 - Kraft wrapping paper... for all my Christmas gifts... goes wonderfully with my striped ribbons. And - you can get it anywhere!!!

6 - "Merry Merry Merry" - the font style PMN Caecilia. Love this font. Did our whole Christmas card in it.

7 - The latest LP from Kings of Leon - "Come Around Sundown." I particularly like the songs : The End and The Face.

8 -  Matisyahu - the one and only Jewish reggae singer I know of. Download this song - "One Day" - you won't regret it. He's dope.

9 - Camelbak "Better Bottle" - any nursing mom will tell you, WATER! WATER! WATER! "Where the hell is my water??? I'm DYING of thirst!" - picked up this awesome water bottle at Target. LOVE.

10 - Eclipse DVD. Yes, I've watched it in increments. Then straight through once. Once over a two night stretch with Clark... and once with the R-Pat and K-Stew commentary. Can't get enough.

11 - Fujifilm Instax Mini - a brand new "polaroid" camera that takes photos that are the size of a credit card. So fun.

12 - Minted.com - I'm so inspired by the graphic designs on their line of stationary products.

 

Also - as long as we're on the subject...

I'm really thinking of taking Ali Edward's new class over at Big Picture Classes.com - "One Little Word"

Are any of you taking it or thinking about it? Do you know what your word is?

I smiled and wiggled in my seat.

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I've been just consumed with work the past few days. Lucky for me I'm able to casually "catch up" on some TV time while I work. I usually throw a movie in and "listen" while I work on jewelry, or edit photos, or work on design projects...

I had a goodie on yesterday... again, from my beloved Netflix.

Call him bizarre... weird... misunderstood... tortured soul... or - a musical genius. He was just so so so.... undeniably

original.

No one could sing the way he could. No one could MOVE the way he could.

It was mesmerizing. And the dancers in his show! Sick.

It was impossible for me to not sit with a big smile and bob my head, and wiggle in my seat while he did his thang.

It was a Thriller, baby. 

Highly recommend.

P.S. Wish me luck... This weekend I'll be shooting my very first wedding with Miss Fabulous. A big deal for me. I'll keep ya posted.
