Forgive me - I'm writing this post during the commercial breaks... I apologize if my words are all over the place...
OK, Beyonce just performed and I have chill bumps all over! Three words... SA. SHA. FIERCE.
So music, as you all know by now - is a HUGE part of my life. I've been singing and dancing my way through it for 32 years now. As a little girl, I would run around my house with a glove on one hand and a whisk in the other belting out Whitney Houston songs. See - even as a kid I thought I was Stevie Nicks with a tambourine... (nice sweatband, John... and yes, this is the ONLY time you'll see me in a bikini on here - thank goodness!)
I was in high school choir, show choir, district choir, and church choir. If there was an opportunity for me to sing - I was there. In college, I sang the national anthem for various sporting events at Penn State. My biggest audience? A tie - basketball game at Bryce Jordan Center was about 13,000 - and also the Penn State Dance Marathon... roughly 12,000 people. It was awesome, and I was hooked.
Then after college, I was the lead singer in a band for 5 years called the JR & Katie band. We were a State College fixture... Incredible days. Phil took this picture of me at my final gig with them... an amazing, memorable, bittersweet night. Notice the bulging neck vein. I was killin' it, yo.
Do I miss it? Definitely. Seeing all these musicians tonight reveling in their craft and getting acknowledged for their creative genius... I feel a part of their gravitational pull. If I could figure out a way to put another band together I totally would. But, I don't know anyone down here on the shore that plays an instrument and would be interested in doing that... SO if you do - leave me a comment or email me! K?
Ok - Pink just got wet... She is so hard core...
So who am I looking forward to seeing tonight? Taylor Swift of course. I hope she cleans up. She's won 3 so far... And Kings of Leon, duh. They SO rule over Green Day in the alternative category. Although that 21 Guns song is pretty dope. Thank goodness Green Day is nominated for Best Rock Album tonight. I DO hope they win that. Ummm... Lady Gaga is so crazy amazing. What a freak - but so cool at the same time... I still haven't figured her out... and I think that's the point, right? However, she is in many of the same categories as Taylor so naturally, I'm rooting against her there. But I DO love Beyonce, and I hope she wins for Best Female Vocal Performance. Her pipes are unmatched. And, I'm excited about all about the performances.
I also love watching the red carpet coverage. I think Ryan Seacrest is such a great host. He's kind to everyone and always keeps things moving along. And Gulianna can hold her own too. Did you know she is from Bethesda?
My best dressed list? That chick from Glee - Lea Michele, wore a gorgeous Romona Keveza dress. I wore a Romona Keveza wedding gown and I never felt more red carpet than I did that day. Keri Hilson looked fab in Dolce&Gabanna... and Marissa Miller looked smokin' hot in a white mini-dress and statement necklace. But hey, what the heck is she doing at the Grammy's? She's a Victorias Secret model...?!@*?! Finally, my homegirl, Taylor Swift. She is such a lady. She looked gorgeous and poised in a sparkling sapphire gown.
Worst Dressed? Adam Lambert, Snooki Polizzi from Jersey Shore. YIKES! Google them people, trust me.
WOOOOO HOOOOO! Kings of Leon just won Record of the Year!!!!! Go do some shots boys - you deserve them.
Uhhh.. did Jamie Foxx just do the running man during his cheezy lip synched performance? He's so uncool. OMG... it just keeps getting worse. May have to go brush my teeth or something and come back.
MMMMMM... minty fresh. I'm back. Taylor is coming up soon performing with the one and only Stevie Nicks. I'd give my left arm to do that... sheesh. Her life IS a fairytale. The singing success... the hot werewolf boyfriend... now this! (Although I heard she and T-Laut are cooling off. Too bad.)
Well.... I'm sad to report that Miss Taylor's performance wasn't all that. Her vocals were terribly flat on both "Fairytale" and "Rhiannon" and the rendition of "You Belong With Me" was, in a word, hokey. Makes you realize the magic of the studio. Stevie was great as always. Don't worry Taylor, I still love you. Keep doin' your thang.
Ok, the night has been redeemed. Thank you, thank you, Mr. Michael Jackson. He IS and always will be the undisputed King of Pop. It's easy to get caught up in the bizarre, tortured, alleged side of his life - but then all you have to do is listen to one of his songs like "Earth Song" and you realize what a gifted, sincere artist he was. The music world will never be quite the same without him. Prince and Paris just accepted a Lifetime Achievement award on his behalf and did a hell of a job with the speech. Way to go kids!
I'm satisfied for the night....
No wait - AWWWWWW YEAH! T-Swift wins ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!! You go girl! Yessssssss! I knew it wasn't out of reach! You are such an inspiration! You make us believe that anything is possible!
Nighty night!

I was making that nails-on-the-chalkboard face during Taylor's performance!

The world is governed more by appearances than by realities, so that it is fully as necessary to seem to know something as to know it.
